    1. This is a really great book and Sherry is an excellent writer! I was really captivated by all her stories and found the book inspirational. This book made me both laugh and cry and also gave me a glimpse into her shoes and what it is like to be a parent of someone with Down syndrome. Parenting doesn't end when your kid turns 21 and her son still cannot be left home alone. She describes the struggles along with the joy Charley has brought her and how her life will never be the same. It really gav [...]

    2. Ya'll, you need to read this book. This is a memoir of an adoption, a Down Syndrome adoption to be more specific. Sherry chronicles her and her husband's decision to not only adopt a baby but to adopt a baby boy born with DS. The stories she tells are honest, at times heart-breaking, but overall full of joy and love. The little things that most parents take for granted as your children get older (like leaving them unattended for hours on end because you need a break) parents of special needs chi [...]

    3. A pastor and his wife adopt a child with Down syndrome, this memoir is that adventure. This is *not* a how-to book for families expecting a child or with a child with DS, this is a *how-we-are* book, and that’s it. As Palmer states early on, “I have written this with the best sense of Charley. So forgive me if I don’t speak for Down syndrome people everywhere; I’m no expert.” She emphasizes that every child/person is unique, this is their story and theirs alone. Palmer’s memoir is se [...]

    4. 'Life with Charley' by Sherry McCaulley Palmer is packed full of Love, Patience, and Love. And, oh, did I say Patience? Sherry tells a no-holds-barred memoir of rearing a Down Syndrome baby turned man. When she and her husband Brad adopted baby Charley they signed up for his lifetime. God smiles on their patience with this big bundle of dancing joy, who stubbornly refuses to shower, loves the girls, and wants everyone to celebrate his birthday every day. Sherry meets all the challenges with a se [...]

    5. InspirationThis book surely makes you look at the world in a different light. Thank you Sherry for sharing Charlie with us.

    6. Needs a Warning Label!!Life With Charley: A Memoir of Down Syndrome Adoption by Sherry McCaulley Palmer might well wear a label : Open only if you are willing to be touched! This memoir tells of twenty-one years in the lives of a clergy couple and their adopted son, who was born with Trisomy 21, Down Syndrome. The author’s writing style gives this the tone of a conversation with a trusted, trusting friend. From one anecdote to another, each conveyed in well-wrought scenes that draw the reader [...]
