    1. This book is very well laid out with excellent illustrations and maps as well as interesting biological information. How useful it will be to you will depend on where you want to use it and what types of organisms you want to identify. If you are going offshore, deep sea fishing or pelagic birding, then this book will be very useful. If you are exploring a salt marsh you might find it a bit frustrating.     2. Used this book on a trip to the gulf coast of Florida. Very helpful identifying lots of critters I saw there (crabs, fish, dolphins, stingrays, turtles, sharks, birds and shells). I did not spend much time using it to id plants as I was too busy looking for animal life. I would have given it 5 stars but I found that the authors used the word "unmistakable" in the descriptions way too much. That word is not helpful in identifying animal life if you have never seen the particular creature before. [...]

    3. A helpful "general" field guide that includes a good spread of a lot of different groups of animals, some plants. Great for a trip to the beach anywhere from Georgia to Texas.
