    2. In 2011, I started watching the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica as it was airing in Japan. I don't normally watch anime this way (but when I do – *shot*) but Madoka was incredible from all technical standpoints. The writing, the art, the animation, the music, the character and background designs, everything about it was so wonderfully neat and polished. (Yes, like all anime it had its quality and off-model moments, but man. I'm currently saving up for the series on Blu-Ray, because it's simply [...]

    3. This starts off as a fairly standard magical girl manga, with some really nice art. But by the last chapter, it becomes clear that this isn't going to be a typical series. It starts in a pretty standard way, with schoolgirls Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki getting the call to become magical girls and fight witches. They're guided by Mami, a more experienced magical girl, and Kyubey, an adorable, talking, magical critter. So far, quite normal, and it's only the art style that would make the series [...]

    4. What a misleading title! I already knew that the story itself was completely different from the cutesy cover, but wow. That was more violent than I thought it would be. There were some parts that were boring, and I hope the story picks up speed in the next volume. But other than that, I really enjoyed this!

    5. Before I get on with reviewing this, I have to admit that I had a little trouble finding this series by volume since it goes by a plethora of different names. told me it was chapters 1 through to 4 that make up the first volume, so I went with that. Apologies if I made a mistake. On with the show! Now this one was recommended to me by Vanessa, who has recommended two other tiles to me so far. The first was Black Butler, which was so frivolous and disappointing that I actually fell asleep reading [...]

    6. Note to self: Don't make a contract to become a magical girl with a fluffy cute creature unless I want to keep my soul. This series, when the first information hit the web in December, really fired up both fans and critics of Studio Shaft (the studio responsible for the TV anime). People were pretty evenly divided, since Shaft now has their own individual signature animation style, and everyone was wondering if this was just going to turn into another typical Shaft-style show. I myself was wonder [...]

Tapi kamu masih tetap mau menyelesaikannya?Kalau begitu, lakukan saja hal yang [...]

    8. 3.5I do not want to discuss this too much since I have already watched the anime that this manga was based on, but what I will say is that this is a very abridged version of the first 4 episodes of the anime. It is not bad, but a lot of the emotional impact and sense of adventure is limited by the super fast pace in this adaptation. I am excited to read all of these and re-vist the world of Madoka, it really did amazing stuff for the Magical Girl genre and I recommend the anime to everyone who e [...]

    9. Yen Press/Orbit/Hachette did an absolutely fabulous job with this translation. I'm really happy with it - and hopefully now they'll pick up the rest of the Madoka manga (and its spinoffs) for US publication, too!

    10. becoming a magic girl and helping people seems like the greatest thing in the world at first glance, but when things go wrong these young ladies will really realise that magic wishes aren't always in your best interest and being a magic girl isn't what it's all cracked up to be. honestly I was a little bored with this manga. I found the girls quite irritating. And the fact that they're being pushed and pulled between becoming a magic girl or not soon becomes frustrating. What kept me interested [...]

    11. (Marking just the first volume but I've read the entire manga)I've watched the anime first, so reading the manga felt more like a complement to it. The story is quite surprising and there are many plot twists, which it's different from most of the mahou shoujos titles.

    12. As my sister is ever so insistent on making a Homura Akemi doll out of paper modeling clay (and I think it's going to turn out awesome!) I was thinking that rewatching the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime would take too long so I remembered stumbling across the manga on and thought to give it a try.Now taking note that I have seen the anime in its full in March 2013 I will note the differences between the anime and the manga adaptaion so I will be very thorough. Oh and if you did not guess it al [...]

    13. "Make a contract with me. Become a Magical Girl!""Are you using your wish on someone else for their happiness, or for their gratitude?"I can't gush enough how much I adore this manga. I've watched and loved the anime beforehand, so I knew I had to read this adaptation. 'Puella Magi Madoka Magica' is my second favourite anime of all time (the first being 'Fruits Basket'). It is an exploration and deconstruction of the Magical Girl genre. The 12 episode series is adorable - with deceptively pretty [...]

    14. You know, those magical girl manga that are super cute? You know, those magical girl manga that make you happy? You know, those magical girl manga that make you laugh. Well, this isn’t one of those magical girl manga. Puella Magi Madoka Magica starts out very light-hearted but as the reader turns the pages the story gets more and more mysterious. And then is starts to become absolutely heartbreaking. I really can’t write a better synopsis than the one shown above so please read that.I really [...]

    15. This manga is the most beautiful and heart-wrenching manga I've read so far. It started out in an ordinary magical girl genre way. Madoka dreams about this girl who is in the midst of something like the apocalypse. This girl turns out to suddenly appear as the new girl in school, Homura. Homura gives her a cryptic warning. Madoka is called by a magical cute creature and she saves him from Homura who was trying to kill him. Then she is introduced to the world of the Puella Magi, magical girls pro [...]

    16. Puella Magi Madoka Magica is by far a very interesting concept plotted into a story. Set in Japan, a group of friends meet strange fates when they learn about strange creatures, simply called Witches. These witches are the cause of most illogical deaths and disappearances all over the world. This book is definitely different from most others in its genre by easily stitching its strange plot into a common location, making it so that anything that happens in it could possibly be true, despite the i [...]

    18. I don´t know what to make out of this manga. It´s definitely a darker urban kind of magical girl manga. I am pretty sure fans of shojo magical girl mangas (like Wedding Peach, Kamikaze kaito Jeanne or Petty Cure)will dislike this.Being a Magical girl has a cruel high price in this manga. And the girls don´t only fight witches (which are black wart blobs in this manga and no human beings [insert the rant of a fangirl of the mystical fan corner here]), they fight each other too. And they don´t [...]

    19. I'm borrowing this series from my nephew as he told me it was dark and he loved it. I'm not too sure where this is going in the first volume yet. I'm intrigued. It seems to be typical shojo fantasy at first, but there is something off about these magical girls, the dialogue is quite depressing, and we come to realize these magical girls' lives are not all fun and games. The art, however, is usual cutesy shojo form. I'm definitely interested in continuing on wth the series but not sure whether th [...]

    20. 3.5 stars. The premise of the manga is worn out(magical girls), but executed well in Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The characters were well-developed and likeable, and the plot was fun and interesting. I'd say this one was a little bit slow because it's the first in a series, and there were lots of explanations and introductions. There's an AWESOME twist at the end. I'm still thinking about what happened. Anyway, pick this one up! :)

    23. Look, I LOVE Madoka, but the manga felt lacking. It moved too quickly and seemed to assume you've watched the anime. It didn't have the same feel as the anime.I'll read the rest of the books because I'm a huge Madoka fan, and I'm hoping things will improve. I recommend watching the anime if you want the full experience of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica series.

    24. I love the anime, for the most part the manga still follows it pretty close but doesn't invoke the same amount of emotion as the anime series. Good magical girl manga, if you haven't read it or watched the anime, it's a must. Five stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
