    1. A touching story about self discovery and growing up. It was nice to learn who Josefina was named after and about herbs and healing people.

    2. I love how this one is filled with second chances! We see Josefina finding the sprouts from her mother's favorite flowers, a kid, a terrible mistake, a future occupation, and a wonderful birthday celebration! One of the reasons I am loving this series is the attention to detail with regards to the traditions on the New Mexicans in the early 1800s without modernizing them (too much). We see the connection to God, neighbors, family, and simple traditions. The story is well crafted and written. It is [...]

    3. as it transpires, josefina's godmother is the local herbalist & healer. she is josefina's father's oldest sister. she requests that josefina come into town one day & help her clean & organize her stockroom. they make a game of it. as josefina takes each bottle off the shelf, her godmother asks her to guess what's inside. josefina is pretty good at guessing, & is rewarded with an explanation of how to use the herb & what it treats. josefina is given a root thing that can be ma [...]

    4. Josefina's birthday is coming up, but the really important part of the story deals with Josefina's relationship with Tia Magdalena, who is her godmother and a healer.( In other cultures she would have been referred to as a "wise woman," someone who knew about various herbs and materials that could be used for healing people's illnesses. Such people were present throughout history in various societies. In Native American society they would have been referred to as medicine men and medicine women. [...]

    6. It's spring and time for Josefina's birthday, she'll be ten this year and Josefina has decided she wants to be a curandera or healer like her godmother Tia Magdalena. Josefina's responsibility and strength is put to the test when she decides to had raise Florecita's orphaned baby and she's tested yet again when her friend Mariana is bitten by a venomous snake, will Josefina prove that she's growing up and can be a curandera and also have a happy birthday?

    7. I thought this was a very good book. I really enjoyed rereading it. Josefina really is a kind hearted girl. The way she took care of the baby goat and when her friend was bitten by a snake, she knew what to do. Now on her birthday she is given gifts and the best one was that she now knows she is a healer.

    8. I liked this book because it was Josefina's birthday, and her birthday was in the spring time. Floricita, her meanest enemy and a goat that lived on her ranch, had a baby kid. When she had the baby kid, she died, and Josefina took care of the baby kid, and the kid was nicer than Floricita. The kid followed Josefina all around like her shadow. -by Felicity

    9. I think this book is getting closer to the progression I see with the family. I think it is interesting the different way people celebrate birthdays and holidays in general. I didn't realize how much the church was related in their daily lives.

    10. Alissa delights in learning the names of all the characters who are in the photos at the beginning of the books. She received another catalog and is trying to decide which doll she wants for her birthday.

    11. I liked happy birthday Josefina. Josefina's friend got bit by a rattlesnake.Josefina had one faevret tree.

    12. Josefina finds direction for her life and saves the life of her best friend all in the space of one afternoon! A touching story with a lot of action and adventure.

    13. While it liked this book, it didn't seem as good as the other ones before it. I liked the history section a lot though.

    14. This series is a really good one. I've read more than what's on my list, but I don't feel like going through 40 somewhat pages. LOLS :) They are easy though.

    15. I've enjoyed the 2 Josephina - American Girl books I've read to keep up with my granddaughter, Campbell's growing book collection. I like Josephina and her stories in New Mexico in the 1800's.
